In memory of Elizabeth Langford (1929-2009)

With great sadness we have to report that
Elizabeth (Betty) Langford died peacefully on 11 August 2009 in the
Hospice of the Regional Hospital near her home in Leuven, Belgium. About
a month ago she had been advised to discontinue all but palliative
treatment for her cancer. The discontinuance of chemotherapy gave her a
period of considerably enhanced wellbeing and heightened awareness,
during which she was able to continue her Alexander teaching, and her
final decline was, when it came, mercifully brief and relatively
painless. The loving care that she received in the tranquillity of the
Hospice was outstanding, and she could not have wished for better.
Betty’s funeral took place on 18 August,
attended by about 35 people, many of them colleagues from the Alexander
world. You can read
here the several tributes read at the funeral ceremony.
